Driveway Cleaning Falkirk

Driveway cleaning is Steam King's speciality, and it's fair to say it's the job we've built our reputation on. Over 15 years, we've cleaned more driveways across Falkirk and Denny than almost any other type of job we do, and it's still the one that gets the best reaction once it's finished. There's something genuinely satisfying about watching a dull, grey, weed-covered driveway come back to its original colour.

Every surface

Every Driveway Type,Cleaned Properly

Block paving

is the most common driveway type we deal with, and also the one that needs the most care. Block paving has sand-filled joints between each block, and blasting them with too much pressure strips that sand straight out, which loosens the blocks and lets weeds straight back in within weeks. We clean block paving at a pressure and angle that lifts dirt and algae without emptying the joints, and where sand has already been lost, we cover re-sanding on our block paving restoration page.

Tarmac driveways

are generally more forgiving than block paving, but still need the right approach to lift oil staining and general grime without damaging the surface binder. Older or more worn tarmac needs a gentler touch than a newer, more solid surface.

Concrete driveways

tend to hold algae in their surface texture more stubbornly than smoother materials, and often benefit from a cleaning product applied before pressure washing to properly lift ground-in staining rather than just moving it around.

Resin driveways

are increasingly common on newer builds and need a specific approach, since resin-bound surfaces can be more sensitive to high pressure than traditional paving. We adjust accordingly to avoid disturbing the resin binder.

Algae, lichen, moss, weeds

What We'reActually Removing

Most driveways we're called out to have some combination of the following: green algae, particularly on shaded or north-facing areas, black lichen on older or more exposed surfaces, moss creeping in from nearby grass or gravel borders, weeds pushing up through block paving joints, and general road grime, oil spots, and tyre marks from vehicles.

Weeds and general staining get their own dedicated treatment beyond a standard clean, which we cover on our driveway stain, moss and weed removal page, so if that's your main concern, that page goes into more detail on what we do about it specifically.

The method

Our DrivewayCleaning Process

  1. Every job starts with an honest look at the driveway and a straight quote before any work begins. Once we're on site, we protect anything nearby that needs it, plants, garden features, parked vehicles, and get to work.
  2. We use an eco-friendly cleaning product where it helps lift algae and ground-in dirt before pressure washing finishes the job, which gives a better result than pressure alone and is kinder to your garden and any pets around the property. Pressure and technique are adjusted to the specific surface, block paving gets treated differently to tarmac, which gets treated differently to resin.
  3. Once the clean is done, we'll talk you through the result and flag anything worth knowing, joints that have lost sand, cracks that need attention, or areas prone to fast regrowth that might benefit from a weed treatment. We don't take payment until you've had a proper look and you're happy.

Weed Treatment and Longer-Lasting Results

A clean driveway on its own will eventually see weeds and algae return, usually faster than most people expect. Many customers choose to add a commercial-grade weed treatment at the same time as their clean, which noticeably slows down regrowth compared to a clean by itself. It's one of the most common upsells we mention, not because we're trying to add to the bill, but because it genuinely makes a difference to how long the result lasts.

Sealing and Longer-Term Protection

If you want your driveway to hold its colour and resist re-staining for longer, sealing is worth considering once it's freshly cleaned. We cover this in detail on our driveway sealing and restoration page, including which surfaces benefit most from sealing and what to expect from the process.

How Often Should a Driveway Be Cleaned?

Most driveways in the Falkirk area need a proper clean every 1 to 2 years, though shaded, tree-lined, or north-facing driveways can need it sooner. If you're noticing green staining creeping back within a few months of a previous clean, that's usually a sign a weed and algae treatment is worth adding to slow down the cycle.

Pricing

Driveway cleaning prices depend on the size of the area, the surface material, and how badly affected it currently is. A small single driveway is a very different job to a large double or wraparound drive. We give a straight quote after seeing the job, whether in person or from photos, and that's the price you pay, no surprises added on the day.

Questions

FrequentlyAsked Questions

  • Not if done properly. The risk comes from excessive pressure stripping jointing sand and loosening blocks, which is exactly why we adjust pressure and technique to suit block paving specifically.

  • It depends on size and condition, but most single driveways take a few hours, with larger or heavily affected driveways taking longer.

  • Light staining often lifts during a standard clean. More stubborn or older oil stains sometimes need additional specialist treatment, which we'll flag honestly if that's the case.

  • Not necessarily, as long as we can access the driveway and there's a way to settle up afterwards.

  • It's not essential, but sealing does help the surface resist re-staining and keeps the colour looking fresher for longer. We can talk through whether it's worth it for your specific driveway when we quote the job.
