Patio Cleaning & Restoration Falkirk

A patio should be somewhere you actually want to sit out on, not a green, mossy reminder that it's been a while since anyone's looked after it. Steam King cleans and restores patios across Falkirk and Denny, and it's one of our most requested jobs, particularly heading into the warmer months when people start thinking about actually using their garden again.

Sheltered, shaded, planted

Why Patios GetSo Dirty So Fast

Patios tend to collect grime faster than driveways for a couple of reasons. They're often more sheltered and shaded by fences, hedges, or the house itself, which creates the damp, low-light conditions algae and moss thrive in. They also sit closer to planting and borders, which means organic matter, leaves, soil, and general garden debris, ends up worked into the surface texture over time.

The result is a patio that can go from freshly cleaned to visibly green again faster than you'd expect, especially in shadier corners or under overhanging trees.

Surfaces

SurfacesWe Clean

Paving slabs

, whether concrete or natural stone, where algae tends to sit deep in the surface texture and needs proper dwell time with a cleaning product before pressure washing finishes the job.

Natural stone patios

, including sandstone and similar materials, which need a gentler approach than modern concrete paving to avoid surface damage.

Block paving patios

, cleaned with the same joint-sand-conscious approach we use on block paved driveways, covered in more detail on our block paving restoration page.

Older or reclaimed patios

, common in older Falkirk and Denny properties, which often need particularly careful treatment given the age and condition of the material.

The method

Our CleaningProcess

  1. We start with an honest assessment of the patio and a straight quote before starting. Once on site, we protect nearby planting and garden features, then apply an eco-friendly cleaning product where it helps lift algae and ground-in grime, giving the pressure washing stage a proper head start rather than relying on pressure alone.
  2. Pressure and technique are adjusted to the specific surface. Natural stone gets treated more gently than modern concrete slabs, and joints on block paving patios are cleaned carefully to avoid stripping out sand unnecessarily.
  3. Once finished, we'll walk you through the result and flag anything worth knowing, joints losing sand, cracked or lifting slabs, or particularly shaded areas likely to need more frequent attention. We don't ask for payment until you've had a proper look.

Patio Restoration

Some patios need more than a standard clean, particularly older ones that have gone a long time between proper maintenance. Restoration typically covers a deeper clean than a routine wash, re-sanding for block paving patios that have lost jointing sand, and addressing any weed growth that's become established in gaps and joints. If your patio has visible gaps, loose blocks, or persistent weed regrowth, restoration is likely the better fit than a standard clean, and our block paving restoration page covers the sanding side of this in more depth.

Patio Sealing

Once a patio is properly clean, sealing helps protect the result and keep it looking fresh for longer. A good sealant reduces how easily new dirt and algae can grip the surface and helps resist staining from garden furniture, spilled drinks, or general outdoor use. It's not essential for every patio, but for one that gets heavy use over the summer, it noticeably extends how long the clean actually lasts.

We'll talk through whether it's worth it for your specific patio when we quote the job, rather than adding it automatically.

Garden Paths That Lead to the Patio

Patios rarely exist in isolation, there's usually a path leading to them, and it tends to suffer from exactly the same algae and moss build-up. We're happy to include garden paths as part of a patio job, and cover this in more detail on our garden path and wall cleaning page.

Timing It Right

Most patio bookings pick up heading into spring and summer, for obvious reasons, people want their garden looking its best before they start using it properly. If you're planning on having people over, hosting a barbecue, or just want the garden ready before the good weather arrives, it's worth booking a little ahead of when you actually need it done, particularly during our busier months.

Pricing

Patio cleaning and restoration is priced based on the size of the area, the surface material, and its current condition. A small, lightly-used patio is a different job to a large, heavily shaded one that hasn't been cleaned in years. We'll give you a proper quote once we've seen the job or had a description and some photos.

Questions

FrequentlyAsked Questions

  • Most patios need a proper clean every 1 to 2 years, though shaded or heavily planted areas can need it sooner.

  • Not if the right pressure and technique are used. Natural stone needs a gentler approach than concrete, which is exactly why we adjust our method to the material.

  • Yes, this is a common combined booking and often works out better value than separate visits.

  • For a lightly used patio, sealing is more of a nice-to-have than essential. For a patio that sees regular use, it makes a bigger practical difference in how long the clean lasts.

  • Our busier months tend to be spring through summer, so booking a few weeks ahead of when you actually need it done is a sensible idea if timing matters to you.
